Two state elections reveal much about Trump

Two states held pivotal elections yesterday that may shed light on the American public’s sentiment towards President Trump after his return to office 10 weeks ago. In Wisconsin, a fiercely contested race for a State Supreme Court seat has transformed into a de facto referendum on Elon Musk’s influence in politics. The billionaire entrepreneur, who is spearheading the Trump administration’s cost-cutting initiatives, along with affiliated groups, has poured over $25 million to back a conservative candidate. Musk’s involvement has made him a highly divisive figure among Wisconsin voters, many of whom expressed a desire for him to steer clear of their local affairs.

“Most statewide races here are typically very close,” noted my colleague Reid Epstein, who is on the ground covering the election in Wisconsin. “However, what this race has never seen before is a single political benefactor wielding such substantial influence over one candidate.”

Meanwhile, in Florida, where Trump enjoys a solid base of support, one of the two elections for seats in the House of Representatives has unexpectedly turned into a nail-biter for Republicans. Although Democrats anticipate a loss, they are closely monitoring the situation for any indicators that their party might be gaining momentum.
