Terrifying Incident in Bury: Masked Gunman Opens Fire
A mother found herself in a horrifying situation when a masked man, armed with both a gun and a knife, appeared at her doorstep and opened fire while her three children were inside the house.
The alarming event unfolded shortly before 2:30 PM on Saturday in Maxwell Street, Bury, located in Manchester. Law enforcement officials were dispatched to the scene following multiple reports of gunfire in the area.
According to police reports, a suspect has been taken into custody after the shots were fired. The mother, who has been left deeply traumatized by the experience, recounted the terrifying moment when a man wearing a balaclava and sunglasses brandished a knife at her doorstep after an altercation involving a resident inside her home.
She shared her frightening experience with the Manchester Evening News, stating, “The kids were inside screaming. It was incredibly scary for them. I was in the living room with them, trying my best to keep them calm, but I was terrified myself. I could see him through the window.”
As the situation escalated, the masked man produced a device that “went bang” and released “a lot of smoke.” Fortunately, local authorities later confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and those involved were known to each other.
The community has been assured that there is no broader threat to public safety, but residents are encouraged to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation. Although the police described the incident as “extremely rare,” they have advised the local community to expect a heightened police presence in the area throughout the day as inquiries continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Victoria Kenyon of the Bury district addressed the public, stating, “We swiftly arrested a man yesterday following reports of shots fired. I’m relieved to say that no one was injured during the incident. Events of this nature are very uncommon in Bury, but they understandably cause significant concern within the community, especially since this occurred during daylight hours in a public space. I want to reassure everyone that it appears those involved are known to one another, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
Residents living near Mossfield Close can expect to see a substantial multi-agency presence as the investigation unfolds. Detective Kenyon added, “If you have any concerns, please feel free to speak with officers present at the scene. While we have already spoken with several individuals in the area, we continue to appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or possesses doorbell, CCTV, or dash cam footage to come forward.”
The mother expressed that she is still shaken by the experience, highlighting the lasting impact such violence can have on families and communities.
