Massive Blaze Engulfs Industrial Estate in Blackburn

A catastrophic fire has erupted in an industrial estate located in the bustling town of Blackburn, sending thick plumes of smoke billowing into the early morning sky. The dramatic incident took place on Sett End Road West, within the Shadsworth Business Park, prompting a swift response from emergency services.

In the wee hours, firefighters were dispatched to combat the raging inferno, which required the deployment of ten fire engines and a state-of-the-art firefighting robot. As the flames intensified, residents in the vicinity were advised to keep their windows and doors tightly shut due to the audible explosions that echoed throughout the area.

Haslingden Road, a key route connecting the industrial estate to the M65 motorway and central Blackburn, was completely closed off until approximately 4 a.m. This closure caused significant disruptions, leading to heightened concerns among local residents.

Lancashire Constabulary took to Facebook to provide updates on the situation, stating: “We want to provide an update. Haslingden Road is now open; however, it is reduced to one lane to allow for the fire service to operate their equipment. Currently, the Shadsworth Industrial Estate remains closed as the fire service continues to address the situation. We urge you to avoid this area if possible.”

A representative from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service noted: “We have deployed 10 fire engines, two aerial ladder platforms, and a firefighting robot to manage a significant commercial building fire on Sett End Road West, Blackburn. Firefighters received the call at 00:45, and a number of roads in the local area are closed. There is a substantial smoke plume, and anyone who can see or smell smoke is strongly advised to close their windows and doors.” Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire.

Incident Commander Tom Cookson provided further insight: “The fire is now under control and has been surrounded. We anticipate reducing the number of fire engines during the morning, but we expect firefighters to remain on the scene for the entirety of the day. Local roads have been reopened, but please be aware that Haslingden Road will likely experience heavy traffic during rush hour, as all vehicles must navigate ramps to cross the hoses currently laid across the road.”

Cookson also advised: “We continue to recommend that local residents, businesses, and drivers keep their windows and doors shut while in the area. If you happen to notice any small black deposits resulting from the smoke, we suggest using a regular garden hose to wash them away.”
