At 35 years old, Austin appears poised to conclude his football career much like he began it—playing in non-league football. His journey started at Kintbury Rangers and progressed through clubs like Hungerford Town, Thatcham Town, and Poole Town. He eventually made his mark by joining Swindon Town, where he worked his way up the leagues, culminating in a memorable stint in the Premier League with QPR, where he netted an impressive 18 goals during the 2014-15 season.

Austin gained widespread acclaim in 2018 while playing for Southampton when he vocally advocated for the implementation of VAR (Video Assistant Referee) following a disallowed goal against Watford. His passionate remarks included, “They said it was offside… it’s a joke! Going on about VAR this VAR that, help the officials out. Clearly they need help. We play in the Premier League. The best league in the world, the most watched league in the world. Give them all the help they need because clearly they cost us two points today; it’s a joke.”
