Major Crash Causes Significant Delays on M5 Motorway
A serious accident near a popular shopping centre has led to the closure of a key motorway, creating significant disruption for drivers. Long queues, extending an astonishing five miles, have been reported on the M5 south of Junction 16, with traffic heading northbound heavily impacted following the incident.
Currently, one lane of the northbound carriageway is closed, resulting in slow-moving traffic from Junction 17, which serves the Cribbs Causeway shopping centre, up to Junction 16 for the A38. At this time, details regarding the number of vehicles involved in the crash or any potential injuries remain unclear.
Traffic monitoring service Inrix has reported: “One lane closed and slow traffic due to an accident on M5 northbound from J17 A4018 (Cribbs Causeway) to J16 A38 Gloucester Road (Aztec West).” Traffic maps indicate that delays are evident from the Hallen exit, just north of Junction 18, extending all the way to the Almondsbury exit.
This heavily trafficked stretch of road connects the M4 to the M49, located approximately five miles north of Bristol. The situation continues to evolve, and drivers are advised to seek alternative routes if possible.
