Neil Morrissey Steps Down as Pub Manager, Leaving Future Uncertain
A beloved BBC star has recently announced his departure from managing his pub, raising concerns about its potential closure. Neil Morrissey, known for his roles in iconic shows like Waterloo Road and Men Behaving Badly, has been at the helm of the Plume of Feathers in North Staffordshire for a remarkable decade.
The Plume of Feathers, a cherished local establishment in Barlaston, has been a notable part of the community. However, reports from the Stoke Sentinel indicate that a company led by Morrissey, along with shareholders Richard Slingsby and John Sykes, has opted not to renew its lease with Punch Pubs. This decision has left the pub in search of a new landlord to prevent the possibility of closure.
A spokesperson for Morrissey’s MSW Group expressed gratitude, stating: “Neil Morrissey and the directors would like to thank Punch for their support over the past decade and wish the management and staff at the Plume of Feathers continued success in the future.”
Punch Pubs’ chief executive, Andy Spencer, echoed these sentiments, saying: “We would like to thank Neil, Richard, and John for their hard work and dedication over the past 10 years in making the Plume of Feathers an exceptional pub business. Their passion and commitment have been instrumental in its success, and we wish them all the very best in their new venture. As we look to the future, our priority remains ensuring that the Plume of Feathers continues to thrive at the heart of the community for many years to come.”
Neil Morrissey first captured the public’s attention in the 1990s with his comedic portrayal of the hapless Tony in Men Behaving Badly. Since then, he has successfully transitioned into more serious roles, showcasing his versatility as an actor. He has appeared in widely acclaimed series, including Waterloo Road and the gripping BBC miniseries The Night Manager. Morrissey has also made memorable appearances in shows such as The Pilgrimage and The Pact, and played a significant role in the third series of ITV’s Unforgotten.
Since 2017, he has portrayed the character of Greg McConnell, a bar owner, in the popular drama The Good Karma Hospital. In 2023, Neil embarked on a personal journey to trace his roots in ITV’s DNA Journey. He is the proud father of one son, Sam Morrissey, whom he welcomed with his former wife, Amanda. Sam, born in 1989, remains a significant part of Neil’s life.
As of 2023, Neil Morrissey boasts an estimated net worth of around £5 million, a testament to his successful career in the entertainment industry. His presence in numerous BBC shows has solidified his status as a household name and a respected figure in British television.
With the future of the Plume of Feathers hanging in the balance, fans and patrons alike hope for a swift resolution that will allow this cherished pub to continue serving its community.
