Laura Tobin Breaks Silence After Awkward On-Air Moment with Richard Madeley
Good Morning Britain star Laura Tobin has finally addressed the incident where she snapped at co-host Richard Madeley during a tense on-air moment. The incident occurred in January when the weather presenter, aged 43, found herself in an uncomfortable exchange with the 68-year-old veteran broadcaster after delivering a forecast about an arctic blast affecting the United States.
Following her report, Richard posed a question regarding the weather, asking, “So is that freezing weather in Washington headed this way?” Laura replied, explaining, “The freezing weather makes the jet stream stronger, which will bring us stormy conditions by the end of the week.” Richard then inquired, “Oh really, so we could have snow by next weekend?”
In a moment of frustration, Laura snapped back, “Yes, I literally just said that, Richard. That’s literally what just happened.” Richard attempted to lighten the mood by mimicking falling snow with his hands, prompting Susanna Reid to tease him. “Come on,” laughed Richard, “Talk with the hand.” To which Laura quipped, “My next weather forecast will just be in mime.”
Now, for the first time since the incident, Laura has opened up about the awkward exchange while attending the Spring Ball on Wednesday evening. She reassured fans that there is no animosity between her and Richard, sharing, “Well, my mum texted me asking, ‘What was that all about?’ I felt like after I’d just done the weather, Richard asked something like, ‘So is it going to be a nice day?’ and I thought, ‘I literally just spoke for a minute; have you not listened to a word I said?’”
Despite the moment, Laura expressed her fondness for Richard, describing him as a “big science geek” who frequently texts her about scientific topics. She remarked, “I do love him because he always engages with me on science-y matters.”
At the Spring Ball, which supported the Style For Stroke Foundation and the Melissa Bell Foundation, Laura looked absolutely stunning. Before the awkward encounter, she had also spoken about Richard in a previous interview, noting, “Richard is funny; I don’t think he realizes he has no filter. He just says what he thinks, straight from the heart. Sometimes he’ll say, ‘You know what I was thinking,’ and I’ll be like, ‘No, I don’t know what you were thinking.’”
Laura further explained, “He doesn’t care if he offends someone—he kind of politely offends with the way he delivers it, and he gets the answers you need.” She reassured fans, saying, “There is absolutely no bad blood between us.”
