Ruben Amorim Praises ‘Perfect Captain’ Bruno Fernandes Following Hat-Trick Against Real Sociedad
Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most promising young managers in the football world. At just 40 years old, Amorim made headlines in 2021 when he led Sporting Lisbon to end a 19-year title drought, and his success continued as he clinched the Primeira Liga title once again last season. This remarkable achievement has attracted interest from top clubs across Europe.
Interestingly, Amorim’s journey into coaching comes as a surprise to some, particularly those who knew him during his playing days. According to Roderick Miranda, Amorim’s former teammate, the current Manchester United manager was more known for his antics in the dressing room than his tactical acumen. Roderick and Amorim both started their careers at Benfica’s academy and spent seven years together within the club’s setup.
Roderick, who is now 33 and plays for Melbourne Victory, reflected on their time together, stating, “I never imagined he would transition to coaching! Not because of his football skills or intelligence, but because he was always the changing room clown.” Roderick described Amorim as someone with a fun-loving personality, constantly engaging in activities that brought laughter to his teammates.
“When I first heard he had taken up coaching, I was taken aback,” Roderick continued. “I wondered how the guy I played with could become so serious! However, looking back, it makes sense. He was an incredibly intelligent player who could adapt to various positions on the field. Perhaps that’s the reason behind his success as a coach; he possesses a profound understanding of the game.”
Despite the challenges Amorim has faced this season at Manchester United, where the team currently sits in 13th place, he retains the confidence of the club’s board. There is optimism that he will be given the opportunity to reshape the squad according to his vision in the upcoming summer transfer window.
