Celebrating April Fools’ Day with Delicious Dishes
April Fools’ Day is a whimsical holiday that could truly benefit from a signature dish to mark the occasion. Renowned chef and author Rozanne Gold once penned an intriguing article advocating for what she called “culinary pranksterism” specifically for April Fools’. Over the years, she has curated a collection of surprising yet delightful recipes, such as chicken roasted inside a watermelon and an unexpected cake baked in a shoebox (women’s size 9, serving 24!).
A more straightforward yet equally delightful option for your evening meal is the classic English dessert known as the fool. This heavenly treat consists of creamy, lightly sweetened whipped cream blended with mashed fruit, making it both a festive and delicious choice.
But let’s not forget about the star of tonight’s meal: garlicky Alfredo beans, featured below. This dish is a standout in a new compilation of recipes that transform one or two cans of white beans into an exquisite dinner, perfect for a quick yet satisfying meal.
Lastly, the lovely folks at the Rec Team reached out to ask for my favorite burger in New York City. (You’ll need to check out this video to discover which one it is.) However, if you can’t make it to the restaurant, why not whip up your own version at home? I highly recommend this tavern-style burger recipe. For those looking to elevate their burger experience, consider using premium ground beef and topping the cooked patty with a generous layer of caramelized onions. We also have an excellent smash burger recipe available on New York Times Cooking.

I’m also preparing:
- Butternut squash pasta with crispy bacon and rich Parmesan
- Baked wild salmon with herbs
- Crispy-edged quesadillas filled with cheese and veggies

1. Garlicky Alfredo Beans
Described as “outrageously good” by one of the many enthusiastic commenters on this Carolina Gelen recipe, I would personally suggest adding a handful of greens such as fresh spinach or baby kale to enhance the dish. For those interested in plant-based options, detailed instructions for veganizing the recipe can be found in the comments section.
