Exciting Developments in Casablanca’s Airport Expansion
A vibrant city in Africa, Casablanca, Morocco has recently garnered attention as a top trending travel destination for 2023, as highlighted by Tripadvisor. In line with this recognition, new architectural designs have been unveiled for the city’s expansive new airport terminal.
The upcoming terminal at Casablanca Mohammed V Airport, Morocco’s largest airport, is set to accommodate an impressive 20 million passengers annually. This ambitious project is part of Morocco’s comprehensive Airports 2030 initiative aimed at enhancing the country’s aviation infrastructure.
With an estimated cost of approximately DH15 billion (£1.2 billion), the new terminal will boast a unique H-shaped design, promoting a modern “hub-style” system that will significantly improve passenger flow. Key features of the expansion include:
- A sprawling 3,700 metre runway
- A state-of-the-art control tower
- An aesthetically pleasing design inspired by Atlantic waves and Arab architecture
The ambitious three-floor terminal will also feature a ‘green oasis’, incorporating tree-lined areas and lush green spaces to enhance the travel experience. Passengers can look forward to a vast duty-free shopping area, a variety of restaurants, and an on-site hotel complete with exclusive VIP lounges.
Set to double the current capacity from 15 million to 20 million passengers, the new terminal is expected to be operational by 2029, just in time for the highly anticipated 2030 World Cup being hosted in Morocco. The design aims to position Casablanca’s airport alongside other major international airports such as Paris-Charles de Gaulle, London Heathrow, and Hong Kong International.
Accessibility will also be a key aspect, with connections to a high-speed train network currently being developed across Morocco. This will link key destinations including Kenitra and Marrakech via a new £4.3 billion train line.
In the meantime, to accommodate the increasing demand for air travel, several new flights are being introduced. Notably, Royal Air Maroc is set to launch three weekly flights from London Stansted to Casablanca.
For those seeking unique travel experiences, there’s a charming destination in Morocco referred to as ‘Little Marrakech’, perfect for your next holiday getaway.
With these exciting developments, Casablanca is poised to become an even more attractive destination for travelers from around the globe.
