Jasper Cillessen Rushed to Hospital Following Severe Collision
Former Barcelona goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen was urgently transported to a hospital where he underwent emergency surgery after a frightening incident on the field. The 35-year-old Dutch goalkeeper, who currently plays for La Liga side Las Palmas, experienced severe distress and was reportedly vomiting in the back of the ambulance.
The incident occurred during a match against Celta Vigo on Monday night, where Cillessen suffered a distressing injury. While attempting to intercept a through ball, he collided with Celta Vigo forward Borja Iglesias. This unfortunate collision happened in the 23rd minute when Iglesias, unable to stop his momentum, struck Cillessen in the lower abdomen with his knee.
Following the impact, Cillessen was left writhing in agony on the pitch, clearly unable to continue. He was replaced by substitute goalkeeper Dinko Horkas just a few minutes later, in the 27th minute. His condition raised immediate concerns, leading to his swift transfer to the hospital, where medical professionals diagnosed him with a minor intestinal injury.
According to reports from Marca, Cillessen was subsequently moved to another facility equipped with more advanced medical technology for further evaluation and treatment. Notably, Movistar LaLiga reporter Isaac Fouto revealed that Cillessen was even vomiting following the collision, indicating the severity of his condition.
El Chiringuito further reported that Cillessen underwent emergency surgery in Vigo for a perforated intestine. Fortunately, he is now said to be in a stable condition following the procedure.
The match concluded in a 1-1 draw, with goalkeeper Horkas making a series of impressive saves to help his team secure a crucial point. Currently, Las Palmas sits in 19th place in the Spanish top flight, but they are just one point away from safety.
