Dancing On Ice Star Hints at Show Axing with Heartfelt Tribute
Dancing On Ice professional skater Yebin Mok recently hinted that she was not informed about the show’s cancellation prior to its public announcement, sharing an emotional tribute to her time on the program. The Sun reported yesterday that the popular ITV skating competition will not return for another season, marking the first time since its inception in 2006.
Yebin, 40, who competed alongside Olympic skier Graham Bell in the show’s 14th series in 2021, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate, even though her journey was cut short due to an injury. In a heartfelt video montage shared on social media, she included cherished moments from her time on the show, showcasing photos of herself, Graham, and her fellow professional skaters.
In her post, Yebin subtly indicated that she had not received any prior notice regarding the show’s cancellation. She wrote: “I just saw the news that Dancing On Ice won’t be returning next season. I feel incredibly grateful that I had the chance to skate as a pro—even after becoming a mum! I never thought that would be possible.”
Yebin reflected on the significant family decision it was to leave her young child for five months to compete, noting, “We never planned on doing multiple seasons.” She acknowledged the impact on her family life but expressed deep appreciation for the support of her loving husband and in-laws. “I truly feel blessed to have had this experience!”
Yebin also took a moment to express her admiration for her celebrity partner, Graham Bell, stating, “To my one and only celeb partner, Graham Bell, although the season didn’t go as we hoped, my time teaching him was so much fun. His athletic drive and focus made it all worthwhile for me.”
She concluded her tribute with a hopeful note: “Here’s to hoping ITV brings it back in a few years’ time so that future skaters and pros can enjoy this unique experience! I know it has inspired so many new skaters to give skating a try.”
The announcement of the show’s cancellation comes on the heels of dwindling ratings for this year’s series, which was ultimately won by Sam Aston from Coronation Street last month. An ITV spokesperson stated: “Following another successful series earlier this year, Dancing On Ice will be rested in 2026 with no current plans for another series. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the cast and crew who have worked on the show since 2006, and over the previous 17 series, for all of their hard work both on and off the ice.”
This decision leaves host Holly Willoughby without any work on the channel for the first time in 21 years. Recent reports suggested that the show’s set is currently being dismantled and placed into long-term storage, fueling speculation regarding the show’s future.
Morale behind the scenes has reportedly been low, with many involved in the production considering this development as the “final nail in the coffin.” A source revealed, “The staff have been told that the set is going into long-term storage, and everyone thinks this is the final nail in the coffin. Nobody’s heard anything about the show for next year, and casting usually begins next month, with the cast confirmed in June. At this stage, bosses are typically reaching out to celebrities and auditioning them, but there’s been nothing. With the set being dismantled, this can’t be a good sign.”
As the news settles in, fans and cast alike are left reminiscing about the memorable moments and the impact of Dancing On Ice over its remarkable run.
