Farewell to BBC Weather Presenter Julie Reinger After Three Decades
In a poignant moment for viewers and colleagues alike, BBC weather presenter Julie Reinger is bidding farewell to the channel after an impressive 30-year tenure. Having joined the BBC in 1992, Reinger will grace the screen for the final time today, reflecting on her decision to leave as one that comes at the “right time.”
Reinger has dedicated 26 years to presenting BBC Look East, a role that began after she initially started her career as a newsroom assistant at BBC Radio Nottingham. Growing up in Oxfordshire, she has spent a significant portion of her professional life connecting with audiences across the region.
In her own words, Reinger shared, “It hasn’t been an easy decision to leave my Look East and local radio family, but it feels like this is the right time to go. It has been a privilege to bring our viewers and listeners their local forecast for so many years.”
Reinger reminisced about the joyful moments shared with audiences, stating, “Come rain or shine, we’ve shared lots of fun and laughter along the way.” She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to work in such a picturesque part of the country and emphasized the special bond she feels with the local community. “I’m always so touched when people feel they can just come up and talk to me in the street or the supermarket, like I’m an old friend – that has always meant so much to me,” she added.
Robert Thompson, the BBC senior head of content production for the East, praised Reinger’s contributions, stating, “Julie has been bringing sunshine to BBC Look East and to our BBC local radio stations across the region for the past 26 years. Even when the weather’s been rocky, Julie has guided us all through it as a trusted friend. We will miss her brightening our airwaves and we wish her lots of luck for the future.”
Throughout her career, Reinger has worked diligently across both BBC local radio and television, a commitment she describes as immensely important to her. She first joined BBC Look East in 1999, providing lunch and nightly forecasts, while also presenting weather bulletins for six BBC Local Radio stations, including:
- BBC Essex
- BBC Three Counties Radio
- BBC Radio Norfolk
- BBC Radio Suffolk
- BBC Radio Cambridgeshire
- BBC Radio Northampton
Reflecting on her time, Reinger quoted AA Milne, saying, “How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” She concluded with heartfelt sentiments about missing her colleagues and the viewers who have supported her over the years.
Reinger’s final broadcast on BBC Look East is set to air on Friday, March 28, at 6:30 PM. It marks the end of an era for a beloved presenter who has become a familiar face and a cherished part of many viewers’ lives.
