Eddie Hearn Provides Update on Anthony Joshua’s Injury and Potential Tyson Fury Showdown

Legendary promoter Bob Arum has publicly urged Tyson Fury to remain retired, delivering a significant setback to Anthony Joshua’s aspirations for a blockbuster fight. Joshua faced a stunning knockout defeat at the hands of Daniel Dubois in September, while Fury endured two consecutive points losses against Oleksandr Usyk in 2024.

Both of these renowned British boxers were eager to regroup and finally settle their ongoing rivalry, but Fury’s unexpected announcement of retirement in January left Joshua and his team in a state of uncertainty.

Despite this development, Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has not given up hope for the much-anticipated super-fight. However, Arum, who has played a pivotal role in promoting Fury in the United States, has expressed a different perspective. In an interview with Sky Sports, he stated, “He is a good communicator and is an entertainer, but I don’t think he should step in the ring again because I think he’s had enough.”

Arum continued, “Fortunately, in the last few years of his career, he earned so much money that his family or himself will never want for anything. I would advise him not to return to the ring, but rather to make himself useful as a spokesperson because he can communicate extraordinarily well.”

According to Arum, the public is captivated by Fury’s personality, and he believes the former champion could contribute positively outside the ring. Fury signed with Arum in 2019, and together they have enjoyed a successful partnership, featuring nine fights, including two thrilling victories over Deontay Wilder.

Reflecting on his relationship with Fury, Arum remarked, “It’s not for me to support it or condemn it. Nobody is forcing him to do anything. If he wanted to come back and wanted Top Rank to be part of the comeback, of course we would be willing to do it.”

He added, “That’s up to him. I mean, he’s not an uneducated, stupid kind of guy. Tyson Fury is very smart and very bright. It would be a decision made by him alone, and if he wanted us involved, I would happily be a part of it.”

Eddie Hearn remains optimistic about the possibility of Joshua stepping into the ring with Fury, underscoring the ongoing intrigue surrounding this potential matchup.
